The Zurich Conference on Germanic Heritage Languages in the Americas brings together experts who do research on various North and West Germanic heritage languages in North and South America. The presentations, held on the 23rd and the 24th of April, deal with various linguistic and sociolinguistic aspects of American Norwegian, American Swedish, American Danish, Pomerano, and Amish Shwitzer (see the programme for more detailed information). During the second conference day, participants of the seminar "Germanische Sprachinseldialekte in Nord- und Südamerika" are going to interview the researchers in small groups (meetings not open to the public). The conference will be closed by a two-hour plenary discussion between the experts, the students, and other participants.
Due to the current circumstances, the conference will be held entirely online (platform: ZOOM). If you are interested in attending, please register with Patrick Mächler by the 21st of April the latest (see Contact for more details).
